Bin Cat Litter Box

I bought a 5.00$ bin from the store, so much cheaper than buying a covered cat litter box, and cut a square hole. I've used covered cat litter boxes but somehow my cats still leaked over the edge.
This is so much neater and just lift the top off to clean. I love this so much better for me and my 7 cats.
Suggested materials:
  • Plastic bin   (any store that sells them)
  • Anything you like to cut the hole

What a wonderful idea! I think I'll try it. Do you have a picture?

The square huge hole would be a problem for me, it is quite low cut and litter would be all over the floor. Could it be cut higher?

We did something similar several years ago to cope with our senior kitty. She was having trouble keeping things in the litter box. We took a similar sized translucent bin and cut the entry into the long side of the box. She was able to enter and do her business without spraying the walls or getting litter everywhere. We chose not to use the top, but you certainly could. I think the transparent is nicer for the beasts, not quite so dark. Super Kitty has passed on, but our current beast is still happy with the set-up. We'll never use a typical litterbox again.

I did something similar to this but wanted something in the living room that didn't look like a liter box. I bought a small garden bench with storage and cut out both ends for entry. A large liter box fits in the bottom. All my cats love it and they like to sit on the seat part of the bench. I even have a water bowl on the seat.
