Why is the cost double for a deck built from Trex versus wood?
-
Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. on Mar 30, 2011Hi Victoria, The cost of the Trex materials is much more than for normal wood, so the cost to build one is higher than for wood. In the long run, over many years, it would be cheaper to build the Trex deck than to replace a wood deck every 10 years. Trex doesn't rot away like wood does.Helpful Reply

KPT Carpentry on Mar 30, 2011Hi Victoria, there are other costs with wood , like up keep, every 2 years you have to coat wood. You don't have to do that with composite decking. Having said that, to me nothing beats wood. If you notice, when ever anyone sends in a picture of a beautiful deck ,it is always wood. the bottom line is it comes down to this, if you want a deck that works and is there and you don't have to worry about upkeep, then go with composite. If you want a deck that you can be proud of, you go with wood.Helpful Reply
