The Garden Frog with C Renee on Aug 26, 2013Sounds like Japanese beetles. You can make a solution of soapy water (Ivory dishwashing liquid works great with water and spray the plants really well. You will have to keep doing this every day depending upon how bad the infestation of beetles are. If you do not have ivory just use anything that will make sudsy water and go out and spray before the beetles eat your roses!Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Aug 27, 2013If you are going to use a homemade insecticidal soap, it is very important that you test it on a small section of your rose before spraying it everywhere. Commercial insecticidal soaps have been tested for their safe use on plants; dIsh soaps are often too strong and can actually damage them. In particular, it is very important that you not use any anti-bacterial soap.Helpful Reply
