Resurrection Fern Will Rise From The Dead!

The resurrection fern is intriguing primarily because of its ability to virtually rise from the dead. Its otherwise green, lush leaves dry and wither in hot, dry conditions, but flourish again when it rains! It is native here in zone 7 and more than likely in many other areas. I don't have that information. We inherited this one when we purchased the property.
Resurrection fern is an epiphyte or "air plant". It collects enough moisture from its host to stay alive in hot dry weather. It can dry down to a gray, gnarled crispy appearance and to look at it one would think that It had no life.
Within hours of rainfall the Resurrection Fern springs back to life with its green color and turgid look restored.

I thought it was a desert plant. It grows in the Big Bend area which is very much a desert. I love the resurrection plant. It's pretty amazing! It is beautiful growing on the tree...I just didn't know it would grow on trees. I love learning new things!

@Linda Hopper I read that there is more than one variety of the Resurrection Fern. Some have larger leaves than mine. It looks as if the one in your photo is larger. They are definitely amazing plants! The variety that I have must live on a "host" plant that can provide some moisture during dry periods. Thank you for your information!
