As much as I love decorative pillows,I do not love their ridiculous price tags. You want HOW much for that square of cotton? I’ve acquired a lot of fabric and felt scraps over the years and during a recent stash raid, I discovered a lot of felt scraps in lovely fall colors. This sparked the idea for a fall-themed maple leaf appliquéd pillow case.
Start by taking a plain small pillow cover OR make your own, sew your own pillow pocket case out of sturdy fabric. I used drop cloth scraps. (Tutorial for pillow pocket in blog link below).
Next, trace and cut out leaf shapes using the printable (in blog link below).
Out of curiosity, I googled online prices for maple leaf appliquéd pillows and found that they average around $40. The cost of my maple appliquéd pillow using scraps? $0. I’d rather spend $40 on Halloween candy and pumpkins. However, if you’d rather not even spend a dime on pumpkins, here’s how you can make your own out of fabric!
One last note: I even made the small pillow out of old sheet scraps and some poly filling. No need to spend extra if you have a stash of materials waiting to be put to use!
