Please someone tell me whats happening with my grass edging . This happens all the time. I have planted plugs at least twice now and for some reason this keeps happening . It gets water from my sprinklers 4 times a week so it not from lack of water, its only the same spots

I think you might be getting too much water and or maybe some type of chemical damage running off of your paver area

    I agree with Donna.

I always had the same problem with mine. After trying just about every remedy, I figured grass just doesn't want to go next to some pavers, probably because of the heat they put off and the sand around the edges that doesn't hold the moisture. I think it's best just to remove some of the grass and mulch around it, otherwise it's a constant battle that you stand a slim chance of winning.

I think it could be chinch bugs. I am in Orlando and whenever my grass looks like that around the edges, that is what it is. I think it has to do with the edges drying out faster and they thrive in that type of environment. I am definitely not a lawn expert but that is my experience.

It is the heat coming off the edging. Cooks the grass when it gets hot. Look and see if it doesn't get more sunshine than the rest. Also water could be scorching it if you water then sun comes right out. Again to much heat

could be the way the weed wacker person is triming[edging] the lawn cutting too short and burning it out . or could also be bugs around the plant loooks liks bugs
  • It looks to me like it's being trimmed too closely and the grass is drying out.

What I would do is to take up the grass on the edge, about 3-5 inches in, mulch it, and put in some gravel and then not trim the edges. Only pull the weeds/spare grass in the gravel. Or else instead of putting gravel in, put some sort of low carpeting greens, or even larger stones for edging. It looks like the grass is burning or has root fungus/bugs.

You may have grubs. They love the edge near the pavement where it is hot. I don't know where ou live but we battle with them here in Texas.

I can tell you EXACTLY what is going on. The paver walkway is burning the edge of the lawn. The heat is more intense and it reflects on the bare roots of the edging. Solution? Water. make sure your irrigation system is getting the entire edge. My husband has done so many landscape installs, and always gets the system to work so that the edges are always beautiful and green.

take a square 8x8" to your local knowledgable Nursery. Make sure it has some dirt attached and you have both the damaged and healthy grass in the sample. This way you know for sure. Your local Extension Service will do this also.

I too think it is a water issue, question is, too much or too little? I see some staining on the bricks next to the areas. Is water pooling there when it is watered? Could be a fungus. Watch that area when it is watered for the best clue. Does the water soak in quickly? or is it sitting a long time? If you have clay under your topsoil, you might try improving the soil a little deeper to improve drainage, treat for fungus and replant more sod. If you have grubs you will see them when you're digging. Some observation of the area will be helpful to you. Good luck!

You could always plant a ground cover along your beautiful walkway
  • San Augustine grass those best if it is cut at 3.5" and higher in height the in the pictures the soil looks compact and soil cut short. Even the paver are radiating heat! I would check on cutting height, soil compaction, soil moisture and check concrete chunks under soil......
