How do I remove paint from concrete floors without caustic chemicals?

KMS Woodworks on Aug 30, 2013If your painting you can paint over the old finish. Another option, though messy, would be to have the floors sanded or ground.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 31, 2013You can rent a scarifer that works like a floor polisher but only heavy duty. These devices have special grinding wheels attached to the bottom that will remove paint quite quickly. You need to move around fast or you will end up with a hole in the cement. Its a heavy machine, but works really well. I have used them in the past to prep basement floors for epoxy paint.Helpful Reply

Decorative Concrete Solutions on Aug 31, 2013Sanding will not remove the paint from your concrete floors. You have two options. One option would be to use a product called "Soy Gel" or "Beanie Doo" Both are non chemical, natural based products that soften the paint and then you can scrape it off. Very slippery and messy when working with these products but they do work. Don't use a scarifier as it will be too aggressive and and possibly gouge your floor. A grinder works well and is what we usually use. Either a 7 inch grinder with a diamond cup or a stand up grinder. You can rent these at some of the Home Depot rental departments. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Aug 31, 2013I removed paint from a ad on room with water and a razor. I soaked it and put a razor on the end of a pole and scraped it off. Every single flake of paint came off. I soaked sections of the floor with water and scraped it off. I am not a professional but it worked prefect for me.Helpful Reply
