Speedheat - Floor Heating on Mar 31, 2011Dan - Regarding energy costs...Speedheat is very efficient to operate. There is an energy calculator on the speedheat.us site to get a more accurate calculation for a specific situation/application. Many people use the system for zone heating and turn down thermostat and only heat the rooms they are in which results in large savings overall. When used as a whole-house solution, it can save a lot in energy costs as compared to an older, less efficient warming system.

Speedheat - Floor Heating on Mar 31, 2011Steve - Regarding hydronic (water-based tube heating system)...In my experience, we see hydronic systems used more in the north and/or in new construction. Some of these systems can be quick nice, but the cost benefits generally come when they are installed in a whole-home application at the time of construction. Retrofitting with hydronic seems more challenging (in my opinion). Speedheat's electric radiant heating systems can be installed in any room. You can simply lift carpeet and install it without replacing flooring. Speedheat even offers RugBuddy that can provide radiant heat under an area rug over fixed flooring (tile/wood). For applications under tile/stone/wood, the system goes in when the flooring is being installed and is suitable for just one room or a whole home.
