How do I rid my pantry of unwanted moths and bugs?

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Sep 01, 2013Linda I am here to break the bad news. The moths and bugs did not just happen to get in your containers. Many times flour, sugar, noodles and canned or bagged foods have bugs, eggs, or larvae. That is why it is best to put anything with flour in the freezer for a few days to kill any bugs. I know it is not what you want to hear. If you are worried about spraying then I would try fly tape hanging in your pantry. There are eco friendly bug killers now on the market too for spraying. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Sep 02, 2013Renee Fuller is correct with where the bugs come from. Ideally if you store things long enough,(to long) you will get pantry moths and bugs. Ideally you should consider using plastic or glass containers where they stay tight so if indeed these develop they cannot spread. We had this issue several years ago, It was driving us nuts. After finally removing everything, we opened a NEW box of crackers to find it full of larva, webs and bugs. Upon close up exam found several tiny holes on the bottom corners of the box where they were getting out. We disposed of everything and now date the boxes with a magic marker. And for flour we use those gallon bags to hold the bag. Have not had a issue sense.Helpful Reply

Renae on Jan 11, 2016I agree with the first answer, put any flour or grain based food in the freezer. I do it for 48 hours. I've had no bugs appear for several years now since I tried this. I also put these same foods into glass or heavy plastic containers wherever I can. Seal them up good and keep the lids on as soon as you are done using them. These bugs are SNEAKY! Good luck!Helpful Reply
