Idea's to refurbish a fireman's bed

KMS Woodworks on Sep 02, 2013Rather than de-constructing this I would see it you can pass in one to some new owners...It is working perfect as a cool bed and can bring some joy in this same roll to another yongster.Helpful Reply

Karen Mortimore on Sep 02, 2013If you can't give it up,and it's made of wood, attach the foot board to the wall for shelves (looks like it's already made for this), and the headboard and sides would make a cute chair or swing.....Helpful Reply

Connie Murray on Sep 02, 2013My daughter wants to keep it and continue to enjoy it but we don't have the room to store it as a bed and would like to get some use out of it as she paid for it and he was only in a few nights before we realized he was to long for it (he sleeps sideways so it doesn't work)Helpful Reply

Gail Salminen on Sep 02, 2013@Connie Murray Karen has a great idea, but you may be able to just turn the bed vertically against the wall and add shelves - making sure the unit is afixed to the wall as kids do like to climb - save some space on the foot board (being on the floor) for a cushion so your grandson can sit there to look at a book. Or leave lots of space a put an art easel for kids there so he explore his artistic skills. Do update us with a pic or what you do. Thanks for posting.Helpful Reply

Therese C on Sep 02, 2013You could leave the side rails on, build up the height of the tailgate a bit, and add a cushion on the new tailgate, this would turn it into a long chaise lounge without taking it all apart. If there is no room for that, then I would suggest mounting the back half of the truck to the wall as if it is driving through the wall and the front half a couple feet away as it it is coming back through the wall. Once done, one half becomes a tv shelf and the other half becomes a book shelf. Just a thought.Helpful Reply

April on Sep 03, 2013Perhaps build some benches in it, and turn it into a "toy" that his imagination could run away with. :) I like the shelves and chaise lounge idea too! :)Helpful Reply

Tegma on Sep 03, 2013Take out the mattress and make it into a sand box for him to enjoy. You could buy a couple of pcs. of pvc pipe... smallest diameter..... drill holes on the 4 corners and insert pipe so that it curves over the top from end to end. Hem a tarp or canvas pc. on the sides, and slip the pvc pipe thru' it to make a canopy for shade. The canopy can be made from painters canvas, or a shower curtain, or tablecloth. Be sure to cut a pc. of plywood to cover the top to keep cats from using it as a litter box.Helpful Reply
