Chevron Patterned Pallet Headboard
by
Vintage Headboards
(IC: professional)
We were asked to make a headboard using wood from pallets. Our Customer sent us a pic they found online of a headboard that had random colors which is where our journey began.
Making a rough guestimate of the length of the pieces we determined they were approximately 18" each. We grabbed some pallets and began cutting them apart, removing nails and cutting them to length. You will find it is easier to set your saw with a stopper at 18" rather than measuring each piece as well it also makes the fit more consistent.
Some of the pieces were naturally colored and others we stained to mimic the pic sent to us by our Customer.
We assembled the legs and back then sprayed it black so that if there were any gaps between the pieces of wood that you would just see black which will give the appearance of a shadow.
We started in the middle and worked our way out so the pattern would look symmetrical. After it was all assembled we put several heavy cotes of poly on it to nicely seal everything.
Take your time if you are tackling this project. It was fun but also time consuming.
Please give us our feedback.

Vintage Headboards on Jul 06, 2015@STEVE thanks for the question. Some people use steel wool after it has soaked in apple cider vinegar. Most of the aged pieces we use we have been fortunate to find already distressed. It is very hard to duplicate what mother nature has done especially in terms of the stain finishes.
