This table was picked up at a thrift store but It appears to have different layers of wood grain. I don't know if I can refinish this or will I have to resort to painting it? Please tell me if this is veneer or laminate or??

Bought some re-store finish at home depot, it removes water stains and other blemishes.

From the photo it looks like a wood veneer top. If you're not sure whether to stain or paint, then I would stain it first. If you don't like the result then you can always paint over it. Good luck with your project!

Sand down the top and see what it looks like - sometimes veneer looks fine if you sand it. Buy an electric mouse sander for about $20 - worth it! Then chalk pain the legs.

It looks like the veneer has been sanded down too far. You can try staining first and see how it looks. Some ppl swear by gel stain, which sits more on top of the wood and can hide flaws. If it doesn't look good, you can always paint over it. Good luck with your table. 😊

that is veneer and has already been sanded down too far. Gel Stain can hide it a bit, then you might want to try applying a black or dark brown glaze in the direction of the wood grain. You can sometimes make it look like wood grain.

It's really a bit difficult to tell on the photo if it's solid wood or wood veneer or some type of laminate that looks like wood. I'd say if it's a wood look you'd like, try sanding it and see what happens. If the result is good, then finish with stain and varnish or poly. If it's not good, you can proceed to paint.

Cover with engineered wood flooring, trim to fit table and add moulding. OR ... chalk paint table, OR ... cover in 4" tile or Mosaic tile ... Beautiful!

Yep veneer and yep use gel stain. I am in the process of my first project using gel stain and I love working with it!
