KMS Woodworks on Sep 06, 2013Something thin and lightweight would be my first choice. Luan plywood fits this bill. It is also economical. For best results having it in some type of "frame" will keep is flat and true.Helpful Reply

JP S on Sep 07, 2013I painted the glass part of the frame w/cb paint, then turned it over, put it back into the frame and used glass chalk to write. Looks cute and you can erase it with Windex.Helpful Reply

GranArt on Sep 07, 2013I agree with Positive Solutions -- any surface can be used. Cabinet doors, MDF thin sheets of wood, drawer liners. Loews has tons of pre-cut wood in a nice range of sizes and thickness.Helpful Reply

Terry J on Sep 08, 2013I just used chalkboard paint on top of an antique school desk for my grand-daughter. The surface needs to be smooth but not as smooth as a baby's bum. Think about getting 12x17 frames, take the glass out, paint MDF the size of the frame, and lastly use the MDF instead of glass. You could even glue the MDF into the frame. Paint the frame to match each grandchild's bedroom? I think you just gave me ideas for my grandson's.Helpful Reply
