We noticed water damage under the sink. Although the damage was minor, it would likely get worse with time. I got inspiration from the "put peel and stick tile under the sink!" Pin that's been floating around forever. We decided since we had zero tile experience it'd probably be a good idea to get our feet wet with tiling under the sink.

We picked out simple white subway tile with matching bullnose from Home Depot.
Instead of using thin set we used a product called simple mat (we picked it up at Home Depot). For this project simple mat was fine, but overall after doing a few other tile projects I've found I prefer thinset. After laying out the simple mat we did a dry run with the tiles.
We were able to "borrow" my dad's wet saw (we "borrowed" it for around 2 years). If you don't have somebody to borrow from you can rent one at Home Depot. This was my first time using it and I was nervous, but it wasn't difficult to use.
We ended up not having the tile spacers in the size we wanted. So we opted to use nickels instead.
We used polybend sanded grout. I probably should have taped off the edges, oh well.
After wiping the haze and sealing everything we were left with a Beautiful under the sink area! How many people can say they have a pretty under sink cabinet ??
I will absolutely repeat this project in any home I own.

I love that simple mat! I did subway tile in my kitchen all the way to the ceiling with that product years ago and it's still holding perfectly. I also helped my daughter re-do her entire kitchen one weekend and it came out amazing. Her tile was stacked stone from Home Depot and it worked on it too! Great stuff for the beginner who's not keen on mixing loads of quick set. :) Great job under the sink! I've got some tiles left over and this looks like the perfect use for them :) Can't wait to use the spares under the sink and it's a fantastic idea and easy to clean! GREAT JOB!

I also tile up the sides about 6 inches, using a good caulk in the 90 corner just in case of a water leak.
