How to Make Vanilla Extract

You don't have to pay the high prices for the tiny bottles of real vanilla extract at the store! Make it yourself with just two ingredients. It makes a fantastic Christmas gift for family and friends who like to bake, too.
Ingredients:
Five vanilla beans (I used these); cost: $6
750ml plain vodka; cost: $10
Split the beans and place them in a jar. Pour the vodka over the top; put the jar in a cool, dark place to steep.
Once the vodka turns a lovely deep carmel color, it's ready! Pour into pretty jars for gifts, or to keep for yourself. If you're using a clear jar, store your vanilla in a dark place.
Beautiful, isn't it? Homemade vanilla extract is easy to make and only costs a fraction of store-bought.
Split the vanilla beans open and then cut them in half.
Place the beans in the jar.
Pour the vodka over the top.
Put the jar in a cool, dark place and leave it steep for a while.
Once the vodka turns this lovely carmel color, it's ready!
