DIY Farmhouse Table Makeover

While remodeling our kitchen earlier this year, we were trying to stay within a small budget. After two new appliances and new counters, there wasn't much leftover for anything else.
I had an old farmhouse style table and chairs in there for years. I wanted to replace it, because it was so ugly, but that wasn't an option. Fortunately, this set fits the space well, so I got creative. Here is what it looked like before.
The wood table with the builder grade oak cabinets was feeling kind of like a log cabin to me, and not in the good, rustic way. I wanted a farmhouse table so I found a way to turn this table into one.
First, I painted the base of the table white with chalk paint. Once that was dry, I slightly distressed the legs with sandpaper.
Then I added some thin plank boards right over the top of the existing table. The boards I used were thin and easy to work with. They also come with an adhesive on the back, so I didn't have to nail anything into the table.
Lastly, I painted the chairs blue for contrast. It's not a new store-bought table, but it's 100% better than it was before!
