Flower or weed

This yellow flower has grown to about 4 ft next to my tomatoes I think it may be a weed, but you never know with me and seeds, does any one known this plant

The lanky stem says weed to me, but I can't tell you what it is.

Although I can't see the leaves very well, I agree with Douglas Hunt that it is most probably a weed. Prickly Lettuce (Lactuca serriola L.) which can grow to about 5 ft and yellow Hawk's beard (crepis tectorum L) which is shorter are two possibilities. Can you get a picture of the entire plant still standing?

Unless it's specifically an invasive species, a weed is just a plant that's growing where you don't want it to. I've had many a self seeding flower I bought become a weed over time!

A "rose" by any other name... it is a pretty flower, weed or not. I have transplanted a lot of "weeds" because they are pretty (be careful though, I transplanted rattlesnake weed, and it almost took over)

Looks like bitter sneezeweed. (Helenium anarum). It is an annual. but will reseed itself every year and take over . It can be sprayed in the spring. I had 3 acres of it and used a hand self propelled mower with bagger to cut it and get rid of the seeds.

I love dandelions I think they are pretty but most people hate them. Some weeds have the best flowers.

your right some weeds have wonderful fruit...and flowers on them....until they can not be controlled and take over your garden..or yard..
