Brenda Hand-Amunrud on Sep 20, 2016This would make a good dry bar. You could make wine bottle storage behind the glass door. Make a place to store drink ware behind the doors. I would paint it a new color to match your decor. I would also highlight the rope detail in gold or silver. The pulls would have to be changed of course. I have an antique radio that I have been dying to do this to, but my husband won't let me.Helpful Reply

Lori on Sep 20, 2016Get out the paint!!!!! Susubcrafter is right go to Pinterest, search out cabinet and dresser updates and pay close attention to the metallic ones. Modern Masters metalic paint is often used to update these and new modern hardware. I've used it and the results are wonderful.Helpful Reply

Tammy Rose Colenaty on Sep 21, 2016I look at that cabinet and I think it would make a great artist cabinet. Put in cubbies to hold paper and use the shelf for small paints. Use Copper paint to spray tin cans your favorite color, Use them to hold brushes and rollers, etc.... I really like it. It should be a lot of fun. Good Luck!!Helpful Reply

Patricia on Sep 21, 2016What a nice looking cabinet and a fun project! I would chalk paint it and change the hardware. I'm not sure of your color scheme, but Provence (blue) with the rope trim painted white would be beautiful. And there are lots of fun knobs available at Hobby Lobby. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Johnchip on Sep 22, 2016I would consider putting it up on Craig's List and replacing with something nicer that you like and will serve whatever function you actually need there.Helpful Reply

Kathy Bettis Marez on Sep 22, 2016Chalk paint this baby! Depending on the look you're going for in the living space, you might consider leaving the top wood tone. Or paint the entire piece and apply darker wax to that lovely detail along the edge. Change out the hardware for something with an edgier, more modern look. I think this could be stunning! And the best part about chalk painting is that it's very forgiving. You can even change the color, quite easily. Best of luck with this project.Helpful Reply

KNewton on Sep 24, 2016The veneer is lovely and they don't make those anymore. Please don't paint it. If it isn't to your liking sell it to someone who appreciates the old stuff.Helpful Reply

Debi on Sep 24, 2016if it's not an exceptional piece I'd be tempted to chalk paint it and high light the roping detail with an aging glaze. The current handles look off - I'd change those out. The biggest thing I'd change would be to remove the front middle glass door and open up the shelving inside. Maybe add a shelf.Helpful Reply

Ginny on Oct 01, 2016Many years ago, I took an old hi-fidelity/radio cabinet (records before stereo), had the insides removed, added shelving and now use it to store candles, candle holders, and small ornaments. It sits proudly in my dining rm. and dates back to 1952...still looking good. Had a piece of glass cut to size for the top to prevent watermarks. I would keep the glass and display attractive crystal or china.Helpful Reply

Lizzy L on Oct 02, 2016Paint it with Annie Sloan chalk paint in a lighter color, including the hardware. If you've never done it before, check online tutorials. That color wood may need to be shellacked before painting, so it doesn't bleed through.Helpful Reply
