HOW DO I TAKE A KITCHEN GARBAGE DISPOSAL OUT? THE ELECTRICAL WIRE MIGH
-
Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Sep 14, 2013The wire should be ending on a plug, not hard wired into the wall or service box although its done all the time that way. The outlet should be placed above the top of the disposer also. You want the wire to loop down and back up to prevent any water should a leak occur to drip off the wire not run along it into the box or outlet. The outlet should be a twist type connection. Not a simple plug in and pull out type. This will prevent the plug from vibrating out when the disposer runs thus causing issues with it becoming unplugged and possibly shorting out. So you will need to install a box as high as you can safely reach under the sink area. Then install a box on the wire that extends out of the wall, assuming its not spliced behind the wall. Install a twist type outlet on that box with a cover. Then purchase a whip type rubber cord that has a twist type plug on the end or make one up and install it on the disposer. Once installed you then can simply plug it in. But be sure the new wire hangs below the disposer by a few inches then runs back up so a drip loop is created to assure against water running into the disposer or into the outlet should a leak occur.Helpful Reply
