I actually used 100% Acetone from the beauty supply store on my 30year old 8ft X 4ft island/bar in my kitchen. (It had MANY layers of polyurethane) I applied it with an old tube sock covering each hand. It takes a little longer than some commercial strippers, but it worked like a dream for me.

Dust the furniture with a dry microfiber cloth because dust and dirt residue can scratch the wood finish when you scrub the polish from the surface. Combine one part white vinegar with one part water in a bowl. Dampen a rag in the solution and wring it out until it's barely damp. Scrub the furniture with the vinegar-dampened rag in the direction of the wood grain. Moisten the rag in the vinegar solution as necessary. Wipe the furniture dry promptly after cleaning because water soaking into the wood can cause damage or make the wood grain swell and rise. Dampen a clean rag with mineral spirits if the vinegar doesn't remove all the polish after a thorough scrubbing. Wipe the mineral spirits onto the wood in the direction of the grain. Promptly wipe it off with a water-dampened rag, then dry promptly. Test mineral spirits on a hidden area first to ensure that it doesn't strip the finish from the wood. If it does strip the finish, you may need to apply a fresh finish after removing the polish buildup. Mineral spirits, a type of paint thinner, is flammable. Work in a well-ventilated area away from sparks and heat sources.

Are you trying to save the finish? Or just to remove the build up and refinish it? TSP will remove all the build up I use it to clean furniture before I refinish or paint it. I would work slowly if your trying to save the finish. Dawn dish soap and hot water. Wash and rinse and dry. Using vinegar will dull and etch the finish it is a acid. But if you want to get it ready for refinishing using TSP will remove all the build up rinse it when finished. But dawn and doing it a few times will slowly remove it.

Thank you all for your responses. I found acetone to be the best solution.
