Ljgordon on Sep 28, 2016I contacted quikrete and was advised to use quick setting concrete mix. The wood you will have to use is treated and must have the UC4C OR UC5 A,B,C rating. You will have to ask a store to order it for you if they don't have it. It is extreme duty and marine use treated wood. Sink the 4 x 4 in plenty of concrete.Helpful Reply

Galen W. Yoder on Sep 28, 2016If you were to use 4" PVC, or ABS pipe with a toilet floor flange on top to mount an Azek 5/4 x 8"x length negotiable!, to mount a mail-box on . Dig a hole, same as you would for a wooden post, cut your PVC or ABS post to the height you want including the depth of the hole set it in concrete and even fill the inside of the pipe, put the Azek on the flange with screws or bolts and then slip the flange onto the pipe-(proper glue per type of pipe). The Azek is also PVC and you could glue a boarder trim around the perimeter of the platform , hanging down far enough to hide the toilet flange. the platform could be built even larger than the size of the mailbox to add a potted plant, or any type of coastal decoration that would suit your fancy. You could even build a protective shelter over your mail-box to keep the elements at bay. The products I have suggested are probably going to give you the most longevity for your problem, and can also be painted. Even wrapping the pole with chicken wire and planting a climates , or ivy to grow around the pole to hide it! You could even incorporate some "Tee" fittings on the post to make additional shelving for more decorative ideas- Think of it as using grown-up round LEGOS!Helpful Reply
