MaryJane on Sep 27, 2016Start by sanding, sanding, sanding. Looks like you have 3 kinds of woods. Paint the chairs using 2 or 3 nautical colors you like. You could make the spindles look like rope or actually cover them with winding around rope. On the table top I'd stain it a natural wood color and stencil a large compass in the center of it. May have to find a compass image on line and than take it to a print shop and have it enlarged. Paint the compass the colors you used on your chairs. Add a very durable top clear coat. The bench paint a solid paint color add stars maybe on each top corner. Back to the chairs. If you can bleach out the black tone you might want to stain just the seats wood color like the table top. Add paint the rest legs and back. As far as fixin the corner. Use a palm sander and round it out a bit. Do that on all the sharp straight edges. Giving it a more worn look.Helpful Reply

Carole Alden on Sep 27, 2016Half your work already done. Your wood looks like it was washed up onti the shore. Go with that. Turn table and chairs over and experiment on underside. I'ld rub white paint on and wipe off. Save your pictures for the wall, you don't need to overdue. Brain storm with family, pririt chest with dress up close for small kids. wild animals, oar with family pictures hanging dow n from it.Helpful Reply

Diana Deiley on Sep 27, 2016I like the compass idea AND the map idea. Maybe adhere the map first then paint the compass over that in black paint. White washed chairs and table legs will pull it all together. Best of luck.Helpful Reply

Cindy Hagemann on Sep 27, 2016Use chalk paint on the chairs (no sanding required). Paint them red, blue, yellow, white - different nautical colors. We have lots of nautical items as well and I painted dining room chairs these different colors and it was cute.Helpful Reply
