Dfm on Oct 07, 2016love the barn quilt trail here in iowa. pick the size that fits best where you want to display it. usually exterior grade plywood. sand until smooth, prime with exterior primer. i've seen these done as one big quilt block or as a painted mini quilt. choose your block pattern -big book of quilt blocks or thimble berry has a book out as well for inspiration. draw your block pattern on paper and work out color scheme. transfer block pattern to plywood, paint in lightest colors first. let dry . then paint med. colors in and last the darkest ones. if you have used exterior grade colors you should not need a sealer. oh check and see if there is a registry of barn quilts in your area, you may want to do a block that is not already done.Helpful Reply
