by

I've built my daughter two different styles of ballet barres over the years. It's much less expensive than buying a "real" barre and lets your little ballerina practice at home.
More details, including close-up pictures of my supplies, where to buy, and pros and cons of both barres if you click on the link. Thanks!

Megan Flanagan on Jan 24, 2016What are demi-pointe shoes? Many teachers use demi-pointe, also called pre-pointe, soft-block or shankless, shoes, for pre-pointe training. Demi-pointes have a shaped box like a pointe shoe, but no stiff shank in the sole. Wearing demi-pointes gives dancers a more gradual transition from ballet slippers to pointe shoes. They can get used to the feel of a pointe shoe before learning to dance on pointe. To accommodate dancers’ different foot shapes, Russian Pointe offers two models of demi-pointe shoes, Almaz and Rubin. For each model, dancers can choose between a U-shaped and V-shaped vamp. Dancers should use demi-pointe shoes only according to their teacher’s instructions, and they should never attempt to stand or dance on pointe in a demi-pointe shoe. Just putting out their for the people who are looking at this and thinking it is okay to go up in Demi Pointe Shoes. I am glad your child is on pointe now and did not injure herself but that which is pictured above is really dangerous. I am a dancer, a teacher, and a pointe shoe fitter; from an expert point of view she could have ruined her feet by hairline fractures in her toes, breaking her ankles, or even worse breaking her growth plates. NEVER go up on demi pointes!
