KMS Woodworks on Sep 23, 2013The final use or furniture being used will dictate what is done...ie: table tops are a lot different than chair legs. Most rustic, wood is left as is...If you are looking for more water and wear resistance then a protective "top coat" is helpful. I use wiping poly on many projects....rough surfaces can be sprayed with Deft lacquer.Helpful Reply

Jillian Seymour on Sep 23, 2013Depending on the size, place it in plastic bags [black garden refuse bags work a treat] and seal it shut, place it in the hottest sun you can find and leave it for a few days. The heat generated will kill any bugs, this also works on books affected by pests.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Sep 24, 2013If the wood I bigger you may need to build a mini solar kiln from black plastic I did this for some bookcases. the source of your wood can also play a big role. Not all wood is "contaminated" with bugs.Helpful Reply
