How to paint ceramic tile?

I recently asked Hometalk how to paint ceramic tile. Was suggested that I use epoxy paint from Home Depot. Home Depot in the Raleigh NC area only carries epoxy paint for garage floors. Sales person said that was way too thick to use on tile.....

Does anyone know a company that would paint tiles for me?

Do a search on How To Paint Tile on this site. I read that the tile should first be etched using Muriatic Acid then painted (specifically) with Zinser Primer. Following those steps you can then paint the tiles using an oil based paint. The woman whose post I read did this 8 years ago, including inside her shower, and says it looks as good now as when she first painted it. I have this same issue and plan on trying this process. Goid luck!

Try a craft store. You could use a glass paint that should work well even in a shower and just a little bottle will work for 10 tiles and very inexpensive!

Hi, it sounds like you want to paint the whole tile, which I don't think I could help you, but I have painted plenty of regular ceramic tile and imported ceramic tile, but I painted on them with enamel paints, and they came out fine. I made lg and sm ones for trivets, and some of the lg ones were used to hang up. I cleaned them w/alcohol, let it dry and then painted them, and they really look nice. For the trivets, I did put a final coat on them so they wouldn't scratch. Hope this helps, Arlene

If you are going to do only about 10 pcs, can you paint something on those tiles, so they would show up as a larger picture?

I don;t know about your local area but I found this one online. Maybe you could give them a call and they can help you find the right pigment to add to the paint. http://refinishingonline.com/store/index.php
  • I have used metallic (bronze, silver, hammered metal) spray paint on shiny ceramic tiles to make coasters and it worked great.
