Cheryle Fuller on Oct 10, 2016You want to invest in very good masking tape, of many widths. Tape off your design, knowing that the tape will have to be moved according to the colors you will be doing. IN the case of the chair shown, you will base white and finish white, and let completely dry between coats, as you will be taping over previous paint which requires a few weeks to cure. Then mask for the black, and give that 2-3 coats to cover all thoroughly. Start at the top and work down, so splatters will be covered or easily dabbed off. Since it will be a chair, you will be able to move it upside down, etc. I would start by painting the underside for the test colors and techniques. I love the Mackenzie Childs furniture pieces, but they are very time consuming. Plan your work out so you can do a different section while previous paint is drying. For instance, your slats and upper rail can be painted, then turn the chair upside down to paint the legs. When those are done, you can move to the seat after painting the seat side rails. The seat should be last, as you will be seeing it the most, and it will need to be completely upright while painting. Make a short set of saw horses and put a board or old slab door on top for a work surface at a convenient height. Cover it all with a few coats of non yellowing varnish when done. Don't sit on it for a few days to weeks until the paint has cured. Good luck!1 marked as helpful Reply

Deanna Nassar on Oct 13, 2016Either someone has a very steady hand on the back or a set of stencils/decals. Otherwise it's all in layout and taping. If you use decals put a coat of clear varnish or mod podge over the whole piece to protect it.Helpful Reply
