Changing the refrigerator panel color

Question

I have this old refrigerator with off white color panles. My other appliances are newer and in black. How can I change the fridge panels to black? I don't want to do elaborate appliance painting.

Can you share a photo of your refrigerator or at least the model number Usha? Some older dishwashers and trash compactors came with changeable panels though I'm not sure something as large as a fridge ever did.

look in the yellow pages or on line for an Electroststic Paint firm. They can change the color in your home. It it a permanent NON-SCRATCH finish that looks like a factory finish. In Atlanta, the going price is about $200.00

You can also paint the front with DYI chalk paint no primer or drama included.

If your fridge is not textured you could chalkboard paint it, I did this to my 33 year old upright freezer with amazing results. Bonus is you can right your grocery needs list right on the fridge !

I painted an old fridge with epoxy appliance spray paint and it turned out well. The only prep I did was to clean it and take the handles off. (It is the garage fridge, so it was already outside.) The paint comes in small cans as well, so it need not be a major painting project.

I helped my friend do it, she isn't the best painter and it turned out great. I got the idea from a blog but I can't remember which one. Just go to google and put in DIY chalk paint and refrigerator doors and you will get great ideas and how to do its.

I looked at all the options of chalkboard p[ainting as well as appliance paint. Also came across this idea of chalkboard vinyl http://www.alittletipsy.com/2012/03/chalkboard-refrigerator.html. I like this since it is less time-consuming. Let me first check whether the panels are reversible.

When I saw this thread again just now I thought the best way to go might be adding the sticky back chalk board vinyl. My hubby just ordered me a roll which is what made me think of it. It'd be the least messy option for you. I'd cut sections out a little larger than each of the panels and then using an x-acto knife to cute the excess off. I'm going to use mine to make a 3' x 3' family calendar.

Thank you Usha. He's doing great but we're keeping him on a different diet so he stays that way. He was constantly grooming himself and was unable to digest all the (long) fur he swallowed. He was really sick and I was scared we were going to lose him for awhile but once the shot, the oral meds and prescription diet took hold he started to gain weight and act like himself again. Oh and he got a lion cut. Which reminds me he's about due for a trim. I was worried the other cats would make fun of him (It can happen as I found out when one of the other cats needed a partial hair cut before), but I think it made him feel like a real lion (I've always called him 'my little lion') and he's been pushing back when they try and overtake him.

Home Depot has appliance paint in the spray paint area. Refrigerators get a lot of traffic so I would stick to something made for this or you may end up having to repaint over and over.

Before using the appliance paint, will I have to paint with magnetic primer?

My Dad was a car paint and body repair man. He also painted refrigerators, dishwashers, washers and dryers or anything like metal cabinets. He could not paint ovens because of the high heat paints needed. All of the refrigerators I have ever seen done or known being done look like new ones. They usually are not expensive to have done and well worth it. It is a lot better and more professional when done with a high pressure paint gun and air compressor. Doesn't take long for them to sand it down and paint it several coats and dry. Just be careful with the paint for a few days till it is cured well. Good luck.

Check out this site. I got some faux stainless steel film which I intend to apply to the sides of my fairly new 'stainless steel-look' refrigerator. The sides are gray steel and I think I'd like them to be a bit more attractive. I haven't used it yet but the color and look goes very well with the front.
