I never saw this vintage purse before. Beautiful. It should be in a museum.

@Julie Moyna & @Linda ~ thank you both for your comments. I have been collecting beaded & mesh purses for years and had never seen this example either. So far, none of the members of the Antique Purse Collector's Society have either. The fact that fellow member Marion Held could put this back together was a challenge for even her, she told me. The pattern was originally sewn on netting; she ran her threads through each existing string of beads and replaced those missing. Her skills are unmatched in this area!

@Rita C. - Panoply I am no collector. I do have a few but none of that caliber or history. Just admiring something that I really didn't pay attention to but when I did see, I stopped and thought about history. Which made me smile. And for that, I thank you. I will go look at more in the morning. I love home talk for all things I no little of!

  • I am so happy to find you on Hometalk, Rita! I wanted to comment on your purse, but I can't because I am I am not on Google+. I LOVE it! You know the French-American connection really spoke to me. I used to drive to Verdun all the time when I lived in France and pass the WWI battlefield there. Thanks so much for sharing it at the Scoop!...hugs...Debbie

@Debbie @ Confessions of a Plate Addict, thanks for the visit! I thought you might like it for your connection, and thanks for sharing the additional info on the WWI battlefield. Even if just states-bound, Imagine the places this bag's been!
