Soak them in a tub of bicarbonate and vinegar. Leave it for a day and give a good scrub in the evening and you'll get it off with ease. Don't use acidic oven cleaners as it'll destroy the coating and you'll be left with metal that will later rust.

I put my oven racks in a garbage bag, spray them with oven cleaner and lay the bag in the sun for the day. When I take them out of the bag, I use the garden hose to spray off all the gunk. No scrubbing. Sometimes I may have to use a scraper to get small spots off. Cheap oven cleaner works just fine.

I recently cleaned some pretty crusty cookie sheets with a paste of baking soda & hydrogen peroxide..it was remarkable how clean they came out. Colleen's idea sounds easier though and I'm all for EASY!

I run hot water in the bath tub with a cup of cascade dishwasher powder. (make sure it is dissolved) and put the racks in it and let soak all day. It will brush right off for me.

I use ammonia...Put a double garbage bag in a flat box,, I lay everything in I want to clean,, pour in the ammonia, seal it TIGHT,swish it a bit.. leave it overnight, and rinse well. everything sparkles. I've used this on bar-b-q grates, cookie sheets, broiler pans, burner rings and drip pans..

Spray with Dawn Power Dissolve and it will be gone quickly. I love that stuff for rough cleaning.
