Painting this old TV cabinet

As I can't use drawers, I have these old TV cabinets I want to do them up by taking off what's on the outside but don't know what sort of paint to use or colours. I want to put a base coat then use old lace to paint a pattern on top but do I go for a dark colour underneath, with light coloured pattern, my room is very small

Hello, for the base coat I would choose the color of the walls and for the pattern any color that shuts with the rest of the things in the room

very nice! in my opinion when the color is the same the volume of the furniture seems to ""disappear"" and this is good especially in a small room

I would not remove the outside. If it stable you don't need to remove it. Looks like vinyl over particle board. Lightly sand to remove any gloss, prime with a good primer like KILZ, BIN, or Zinsser. Then paint with you color. Use an acrylic paint. Small room, paint them same as the walls color. They'll blend in with the room and make it look larger.

I would use chalk paint. I suggest a white paint base and the same creamy color for the lace.

Chaulk paint in white or beige. You can use antique glaze or wax for lace to give it some definition

Wash, lightly sand, then wash again. It will be ready for any paint then!
  • If your room is small, stick with a light, bright color. If you want yo put a pattern over the base color by using stencils, wallpaper, or free hand art, either go with a very large pattern (like a 12"x12" damask print) or a very tiny one (like micro dots). Anything in between will be too busy and make your space feel smaller. Good luck!
