What can I do with these? They are very sturdy but they are just sitting in storage. Any ideas?

I had several of these. I was originally using them to store papers (like cardmaking and scrapbooking papers) and baskets that had scissors, hole punches, die cutters, etc. But I got something different for that and decided to use these in a closet. I stacked them up and side by side and used them to store my boots, shoes and handbags. You could also make cute toy cubbies for the kids. If you had a walkin pantry or pantry closet with no shelves, it could be handy to keep "like" items together.

Thank You PruBelle I had them in the closet for shoes and folded clothes. Not sure why I stopped that. It's a great idea. I also have tons of scrapbook paper and such too and storage for that kind of stuff is always a problem.

I had several of these. I laid them on their side in our school room and put a piece of shelving board across the top to make a low bench with cubbies underneath. We store bins in each cubby with crayons, building blocks, etc.

Thank You Sarahconti1 Great idea to put a board across the top to make a bench or even a table. Thanks!
  • cute bedside tables,!!!! You can paint them and put a fabric panel over the front to cover the lower 2 squares and leave the one open for a book or flowers and the top is perfect for a lamp and a jewelry dish...or you can just paint them and go get a few canvas storage bins for the shelves to hold everything out of sight

Thank You Hardendheartt Mary T Bina Great idea! I never thought of using them that way and I love the fabric idea.

staple landscaping fabric to the back and then lay on their side in your yard for cheap and easy raised flower beds, just add dirty and seeds. Also you could get some shelving brackets and mount them on the wall sideways as a way to display trophies or pictures (even a few books but be careful about the weight especially if anchoring to drywall), a board across the top will convert them into a desk with shelves for supplies. Use sarah's idea for an entry way bench with storage for shoes (put inexpensive cookie sheets in each cubby to help keep any mud, snow, or water from bubbling up the wood as i think these are actually press board and it makes cleaning up easier since any melted snow or ice is contained in the tray instead of spreading across the floor.) That looks like a cat tower in the background so you could cut holes in the wood and add some kitty toys to make a "fur"ocious jungle gym for your cats inner leopard. (cats like to sleep in boxes so try making one extra soft, and they like to be able to hide so use some old fabric to block off the open ends on some)

I have used similar items with canvas bins I bought. The bins have handles on one side so they are easy to remove. They can hold anything from shoes to linens, to books, or whatever you desire. I have some in my sewing room with fabric in them, others hold thread and other mending supplies. I've kept a journal for years, so some are in my office holding journal notebooks, others are at my bedside holding med bottles, reading material, etc.

You could use them as a base for a bed, lay them on their sides. Nail a board across to support the mattress and the boxes can be used for storage.

I stacked them in my closet. They are the perfect width for folded jeans, sweaters and bath towels. I stacked a couple more in my sewing room to display folded fabrics in a rainbow of colors.
  • I've seen people put storage areas for coats and shoes in their foyer or mud room. You would have to lay the shelves on their sides. Then they build a bench or just use the upper side for a bench. You could use the sections with little bins or just for shoes. Sometimes they put hooks on the wall above for coats and backpacks. It's so convenient to have a place to sit down by your shoes.

I would love these for bench seating! I would attached one to the other and make a bench with cubbies underneath for baskets with storage. Cover the top with batting and fabric for comfortable seating. Good Luck!

I mounted them sideways on a wall and use them to store rolled towels straight from the drier in my laundry room.

You could also cut them down and use as frames . Like a shadow box type frame. Thin squares and paint or cover them with a matching material to go in what ever room you want to use them in.

Cut the bottom side pieces off. But a backing and attach wheels. Put a hinged, padded and tufted cover and you have an ottoman with storage.

You could fill the bottom one with a board, lay them horizontally on each other, and make a doll house. Or give them to someone who has always wanted to make one. If you or they don't want to go to the trouble of cutting out door and make stair cases, you could make them one room at a time.
    • Lisa Lisa on Oct 19, 2016
Thank You Sandra Allen I would never have thought of that. I always wanted a dollhouse.

Depends on height, depth, and width. You could use them to store towels, sheets, linens, face clothes,books,CD/DVD,or in my case VHS.I would also look at it as an over the toilet storage unit.I do not have any storage in my bathroom.Looking for these on garbage days around here. Can be mounted on the wall for storage as well.Have lots of blank wall space!

Everyone seems to know what these are. I've been looking for something for bedside tables that are taller than average because my bed is so high. What are these? Where are they available?

Attach them with brackets and paint them. Buy some canvas or straw baskets to use for storage. Or keep them separate and use them as bedside tables with the basket storage for books.

Perfect height for an ironing table in a sewing room. Iron, starch, etc can go below. I also have bolts of facings and stabilizers on mine. PERFECT!

Turned on their side, I placed on closet shelf. Top Side adds another shelf and cubbies are great for purses or folded clothing.

Put them in a closet as sweater storage. Also could put longer boards in between forming custom shelving. I'd paint the front edge a bright color for a bit of pop!

Why not put some shelves in them and use them for bookshelves, or do what Melody from Arlington, TX suggested, both sound like good, practical, ideas. Good luck.

What fun. They told me they would enjoy being decopaged with pictures or images that highlight one of your hobbies. Travel might be maps, postcards, travel flyers. You family cat could be pics of cats from magazine pages. Gardening could be FloWere from garden catalogs then make it a conversation piece in your living room or where friends nd you. might see it nd start a conversation on the subject. The shelves could hold your travel albums or related stuff. Make them fun.
