Rope table lamp
I have seen a gorgeous Pottery Barn table lamp, the base is a twisted piece of rope, has anyone got any idea how to make one please?

Michelle W on Oct 04, 2013Hi Alexandra, I have got a photo, we have been having a discussion whether there is something through the rope, or if it is holding it's own shape and where is the power cord. I might have to see if I can find something similar here in NZ, so I can see it for myself.Helpful Reply

Amarpale on Oct 05, 2013Hello Alexandra I don't know why you could not do something vary similar to this. IKEA has a base lamp with a base and vary thin rod. You could go to your home improvement store and buy rope that is just a little bit thinner than the one shown and you could wrap it around the pole and still do a knot in the middle. You could rely mike it your own. Good luck with this project and have fun.Helpful Reply

Renee Seeling on Jul 18, 2015I saw one similar but it was a ceiling fixture, hung by a chain. The frame was interesting but the most interesting part was that it was totally wrapped with rope. Would be easy to do! As to the one you are asking about, get some heavy duty paste, such as wall paper paste. Take a length of rope, run a wire through the center of it....an old coat hanger will do fine if you are not putting a lot of weight on the top. Twist it in to the shape you want and then put it in a large bucket and soak your rope in it until it is thoroughly covered in the paste. After you remove your rope from the paste, let it dry for at least 12 hours....24 will be better. Then attach your lighting hardware and wires to your rope and attach that to a base.Helpful Reply

Capernius on Jan 26, 2016Now keep in mind that this is just a guess... I really have no sure fire idea on how to make this, but I have an idea. My idea is one heck of a lot of starch...but even then, I question if it would last for any length of time... To do this with a real rope, something would have to be applied to the rope, or maybe soak the rope in a solution of some kind... if it is something that only LOOKS like a rope, then there are many things one could use... but as I said, in all honesty, I have no idea how to make this kind of a lamp.Helpful Reply
