A Tray Makeover: From Ugly, to Uglier, to Beautiful

I scored a nice tray from Goodwill the other day but it was in a little rough shape. I decided to do a little painting work to make it beautiful...except it made it look like an 80s craft project gone wrong. I almost threw it in the dumpster but in the spirit of DIY I gave it one more try. I'm so glad I did! I love the blue and white geometric look it now has!
The original look of the tray.
I decided to make it yellow.
Then I wanted to give it a geometric look by taping off a template.
Once I started painting I knew it was just wrong. So wrong!
I decided to repaint it white for a fresh start.
A little paper later I was back in the game!
The final product.

I've had a couple of those moments trying to create a pattern where it just goes terribly wrong. Good save, it's really cute!

@Jeanine Wester Thanks so much! It looked so cute in my head and then it just wasn't. I'm glad I at least had the sense to stop midway through. You gotta know when to say enough sometimes. I didn't even look at it for a day (I made sure to sleep on it) before I even started thinking about Plan B.

Lesson learned: never give up on a piece. I loved the yellow, but the finished product is so nice.

@KathrynElizabeth Etier Such a good lesson! Yes, the yellow had potential but after it went so sour for me I had to completely change paths!
