Cleaning and repairing CD's and DVD's

I'm trying to clean and repair scratches if possible on CD and DVD's. Any suggestions that have been tried and worked????
Alcohol wouldn't remove it. I'm trying to save as much as I can so I can play it a little while longer.

Please clean it from center out, NOT in a circular fashion. A little bit of plain water will do the trick. Dip a soft cloth/cleaning cloth and squeeze dry then clean as suggested above. Better not to use solvent or alcohol as it may react with the surface of the DVD/CD.

You can use a green marker on the edge to stop skips. Just the very edge where nothing is recorded. Good luck.

I know it sounds crazy, but to help with scratches, you can use toothpaste. Just the white regular type, not jel or striped etc. Rub it gently into the scratches, then wipe with a damp soft cloth. On another note ... also works to take the "fog" out of car headlights!

I have put the old CD in my desk top computer and downloaded it or rip it , then made a new CD and it took the scratches out.

You can also use screen or optic cleaners safely on the discs. If you use toothpaste use it carefully as it has a fine abrasive in the paste. Just use the regular paste not a whitening formula or gel.

Wipe it gently with the inside of a banana peel and then buff off. It takes away scratches and makes your CDs and DVDs like new.
