I LIKE TREES IN MY HOUSE

We have quite a few red cedar trees on our place, Hawk's Creek, and when Mother Nature decides to let one fall by the wayside, we rescue it. It takes years for the tree to become seasoned enough to make a "project" out of her lovely wood. We have a gorgeous mantle which I only waxed to let the natural grain show. The tree in these photos became a totem of sorts. It rests on the bottom floor of our house and rises into the second. I love the finish. Look at the beauty of the colors and the arches of her limbs. We placed some natural turquoise at knotted junctions, an old arrowhead for emphasis and a hand tooled leather relief native American mask as a focal point. Where she comes to a rest at the second story I found an old piece of green barn wood, which became her resting place. Some old spurs, antlers and a very loved hat look right at home hanging out with this stunning red cedar.

Jimlyn Rook on Oct 13, 2013What did you use for the bracing and is the floor bracing visable or out of sight? I would love to see your railing. Will you be adding pictures of it? Were you using eastern cedar?
