I have never heard of a variety that isn't! Flavours vary,that's all. It is used as a vegetable at this stage and as fruit when ripe.Congrats!

I have a banana tree for more than five years now and so far I haven't has any fruits, looks nice.

Mine is doing the same thing after 3 years. I don't think I am going to eat them though.

Don't hold me to this, but I believe the real difference between edible and non-edible types is simply that the non-edible ones don't taste good or are full of seeds.

Those I believed is what they called in Spanish Donkey Bananas they are call plantains, usually they are for eating them cooked but when they ripen you can also eat them raw: if you want to cook them when they are fully grown and still green you can slice them as potato chips or wait till they are yellow and slice them and fry in vegetable oil either way they are yummy, here are some photos so you can get an idea

Not bad Luis! Those are from our cuisine! Banana chips made from unripe bananas and banana fritters made from ripe sweet bananas dipped in batter and fried. But these two preparations are only made from a certain variety,not the ones shown in this pic. Those are longer than the ordinary bananas,more nutritious and more expensive too.Nowadays chips are made from sweet bananas too. They are all delicious!

the short fat ones are called monkey bananas and usually don't taste good until they start getting brown spots, but then the are very sweet just like an American grocery store variety. the ones in the pic look like they may be monkey bananas when they fully mature.

This is the first year that one of my Banana Trees have produced fruit.. the fruit isnt very big at all and is green (like these in the pics) Ive been waiting all year to see what they were going to do but it seems they have stopped at the size and color they are,, but its exciting that the tree produced!

I would let my first batch ripen and try eating them. Here in South FL we have a variety (can't think of the name) but they are wonderful and even sweeter than a regular banana. I know this because my granddaughter's Great Grandmother has them in her yard and now she is spoiled and always wants the "baby bananas."

We have so many varieties of bananas here in our country. Enclosing a couple of pics for those interested.This is how they are sold in the local markets here. Don't let the pics mislead you ,we have very modern airconditioned grocery shops too. lol!

They look like plantains....they are very sweet when they ripen a little more. You will start to see yellow when they are ready...sometimes they do not get as big as the bananas you are used to seeing in the grocery. They may ripen before they get bigger so eat them when they are ready, don't wait for them to get bigger or you may lose them. They are really good and can be eaten raw or cut up on yogurt, cereal, ice cream etc. or baked in their skin after halving them and sprinkling on honey and cinnamon or sugar

They look pretty small, Probably full of seed rather than fruit. Take the seeds and start more plants!! Your main plant will die back now, but will send up 'pups' alongside where the main stalk was. Have fun!

We had literally a banana grove at our other home here in East Texas with 2 different varieties of bananas. One looked exactly like your tree, (in fact the local newspaper came to my home & wrote an article on me & the bananas several yrs ago) - these bananas will stay green. I did peel 1 and attempt to eat it, actually had a very good taste, similar to Eagle Brand milk (similar being key word) but has tons of seeds that are like little BB's. Basically you are just getting a big blob when you bite into it, a little sweet taste & then you must spit it out or choke trying to swallow all those seeds. The other trees were smaller, the bananas were about 4" in length and the outside was a medium pink. They didn't taste much better. On the bright side, they are beautiful to look at and the huge pink bloom is like nothing else in your garden.

We have a lot of bananas at our Bay House and have 3 of them with blooms/fruit this year. It just takes a while for them to get ripe, but they are good to eat, even though they are small fruit.
