TA DAAAAA! The image has been chipped out of the original paint to reveal the natural wood underneath as the design!~ love love love! Only took about 7 hours to complete the lettering. The griffins took about 4. Also the image perimeter has been etched into the wood. This allows future projects to be done on here - such as stripping the colour right off the top - yet allowing the design to remain. The phrase I chose to use (big thanks to our facebook follower - Lori Beardmore for suggesting it) translates roughly to Live Passionately. I've lost to very very dear friends to cancer in the last 2 years, and when talking with them about life seen behind new eyes, they both told me to do just that. Live passionately. Do what you love and do it often. Life is too short. I agree! Oh how I heart this piece! Do something you love tonight!
The after shot. As much as I want to reveal the process I used, it's actually fairly dangerous. But I have seen people in the past do a similar technique using stickers and removing them after painting. That also works well.
The before shot. All original paint. I did not paint it!
