Johnchip on Oct 27, 2016Oh yes! I bought custom wood blinds online and was amazed at the quality , both real wood and waterproof faux wood (could not tell the difference). Lots of color choices and they will send you free samples. JustBlinds.com (my choice) is one good one and there are some others under custom wood blinds online. I got most of mine under $25-50 delivered under a week. (with online discounts!) Take your time installing, it is easy, but 4 hands makes it really much easier.Helpful Reply

Karen Selberg-Lavelle on Oct 28, 2016My caution, the blinds used look fairly light weight. Keep the weight in mind since you will be pulling them up and letting them down. Not only for your muscles, but for wear and tear on draw chords. My in -laws had wood blinds back in the day. The windows were very tall. This made for a heavy blind. So, also think about something that adheres to the glass keeping in mind the heat and cold effects on your windows. I am guessing there is a lot of glass because the scenery is so beautiful. Take your time and consider the heating, cooling, cleaning, and privacy in each room. Come back with your solution. Curious to see what you do.Helpful Reply

Joann on Oct 28, 2016Just be sure your measurements are absolutely correct. Being off by even a little will turn the project into a nightmare. You also might look into the wood-look, wide blinds that stores like Home Depot sell in-stock. They are cut to measure, right in the store.Helpful Reply

Barbara Piekut George on Oct 28, 2016I replaced all of the mini blinds in my new home of 20 years with 2-1/2" plantation blinds from JC Penney and with their clearance price along with all their other discounts it averaged out to approximately $25 per window. I did not opt for any double window sizes due to the weight on the cords; however, since you have such large windows you might look into getting a quote on window film. My neighbor had her windows done and the film from the outside shimmers like a silvery gold and looks great. There are various degrees of shade to choose from. She also had her front door frosted with a beautiful design. Barb George, Ashland, MOHelpful Reply

Kathi on Oct 28, 2016A friend of mine in Fresno came to San Diego on a trip and also stopped in Habitat for Humanity and bought plantation shutters for his entire house for about $10 each. See where the nearest Habitat for Humanity ReStore is to you, it would be worth the trip I bet! Take all your window measurements w/you. If someone is handy they don't have to be exact, you can cut down or make frames larger.Helpful Reply

Vickie on Oct 28, 2016Hey Fountain Hill, I'm in Phoenix. I love all your windows and such a beautiful yard, I'm a little jealous here. Check out the different films they put on windows. The film can control a certain percent of heat and light you receive inside. I'm so glad to have it on all my windows. You could do the film just on the uppers for sure and skip any further treatment there, if you like. I'm sorry, but I like what you have. I think that plantation shutters could visually be like a wall with slates---overpower the room a bit too much...but that's just me. It is very dusty here in AZ....I have mini blinds in my bedrooms--kind of a pain to clean, but what you have is very easy to vacume...just sayin.. I have shades like that and mine are up most of the time. www.AmeriZonaproducts.com is where I bought my film. They install and it wasn't that much money either. Good luck with your choices!!Helpful Reply

Julie R. on Oct 28, 2016Find fabric you like and make long, long, long drapes! Let them be close together at the top, then held open mid-way down the lower windows. You can also make a Bishop Sleeve if your decor isn't too contemporary. Even a lightly lined sheer fabric will make a statement!Helpful Reply

Barbara Piekut George on Oct 28, 2016Jackie, Apparently Penney's doesn't refer to the blinds as Plantation Blinds. I was merely describing the style by which they are referred to elsewhere due to the size of the slats. I'm sure they are available at other stores as well. I did want to mention the reason I bought the 2.5" was because the string holes are offset and when the blinds are closed there are no peep holes.Helpful Reply

Donna Ward-Scott on Oct 31, 2016I purchased my plantation shutters from Shutter Depot in Georgia and my brother installed them with no problem. If the cost fits your budget, I'm sure your husband can do with. Years later, I installed a pair in one of my bedrooms, it wasn't difficult.Helpful Reply

Jcraw on Nov 07, 2016I do like the looks of plantation shutters, but Hate dusting them. Have you considered up/down cellular (Opening at top and bottom). Or other fabric Easy to dust and more insulating than the shutters. Come in lots of colors (probably including your wall color), are easy to install, and allow you to enjoy as much scenery and privacy as you choose. I bought from Blinds.com, but several reliable companies out there on line at reasonable cost. Many of the store-front places are very expensive, especially since you already have measurements by using those of the blinds you have. I think too that with so many windows, all focus would be drawn to the shutters rather than your furnishings. That would be an expensive shame.Helpful Reply
