Moving from zone 5 to Zone 8 yard

I'm contemplating moving to Central Florida from Kansas City. What do I need to know about the huge climate change before I take the leap, especially in the yard. Pests, what won't grow etc. Thanks

So you are a fan of humidity eh?...Florida has a higher risk of termites etc. This is one reason why concrete construction is more common.

You could fill a book on the subject. I moved from zone 5 to zone 9 three years ago and I've been re-learning ever since. Remember that Central Florida is not the tropics. It may be hot and humid for a long stretch, but you will definitely have frosts in zone 8. My garden is about 70 percent Florida natives, because they've developed to deal with the challenges of our climate, with the rest being "Florida Friendly" plants. This website is a good place to start: http://www.floridayards.org/index.php
