Barbara Ruth on Oct 16, 2013That is a great suggestion and I think you are right. I will try to buy my bedding first and try to pick a color from it. Thank you for your response.Helpful Reply

Gwen on Oct 16, 2013the furniture and beds are a nice dark. The plantation shutters are white. I would go off of that. Meatlesse coverlets, and accent the rich red with a dust ruffle and shams in a paisley to match the reds. Paint the walls in the white. Use a throw pillow or two to add another accent color. Use lamps to bring light into the small space. The shade can be white and the base be a neutral bottle, or mercury glass or even brass is making a comeback. Use accessories that create a contrast to the dark walnut armoire by adding decor that shimmers and stacks of books with the deep red binding. A tall lantern or object would add interest. The light walls keep the drama of your furniture as the focal points. Use white airy curtains. Do you like the ikea ones? Do you prefer a dressier fabric like velvet? West Elm has drapes rather reasonable as does World Market and even Pottery Barn. It's hard to tell without pictures but when I did a room white walls, family pictures in various sized frames mixed with some small paintings and sketches as my artwork, and white on bed but the shams and throw and dust ruffle tying together the browns and deep reds of the rooms, it just went well. I like having family photos and some artwork featured in a guest room because oft times it is family that will be staying there! Over my bed I put a branch from my friend's peach tree but I don't think that will be everyone's idea of art though!! Good luck!Helpful Reply

Gail Salminen on Oct 16, 2013@Barbara Ruth Before you buy your bedding decide what colours you want to accent. If you have red furniture you may want a bit of red in the bedding. I have a small bedroom in our house that we call the red room LOL The bedding is red and black and the curtains are red and there is also a small red accent chair. Wall hangings are a combination of red and/or black. The theme all started when my daughter put a black square on the wall with red shelves - walls are a soft yellow. When she moved out we had to make it our new empty nest decor :) Do update us on what you do decide.Helpful Reply
