Do I need a plumber to install a shower?

Kas8281939 on Nov 02, 2016Unless you are highly skilled.......YES. We had our bathtub removed and tile removed to the studs. The plumbing has to be adjusted to accommodate the higher up shower head, the drain plumbing has to be reconfigured and special rubber foundation for shower flooring. Trust me, it's quite a job, only for a professional.Helpful Reply

William on Nov 02, 2016Depends on your experience and confidence in DIY. You don't need to be "highly skilled" to tackle a job like this. Many Hometalkers have done it. ***** http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=s... ***** . There are a multitude if websites and Youtube vidoes that can assist you. A plumber may need to pull a permit for the conversion. That means any work that you do would also need a permit with inspections.Helpful Reply

Johnchip on Nov 02, 2016Anyone who tells you there are not some 'highly skilled' aspects to this project is a fool. If you have to move plumbing or drains, you will have to become knowlegable and skilled in a lot of things. Your drain pan will be critical to the installation of a shower unit. More homeowners have had poorly installed or failed drain pan leaks than any other part of their plumbing issues. A failed bath installation can easily cost you $5-10K in repairs. If you have never done this before, I would hihgly suggest you get a couple general contractors to look it over with you. There are many aspects of this you can easily do yourself to help lower the costs. But do not take on more than you can chew, it is your major life investment and kitchen and baths are the #1 items per square footage in your home's value. Plan with a contractor involved 1 week out of service, alone, 3-4 weeks.Helpful Reply
