Recycling granite pieces

William on Nov 03, 2016Cutting granite is not for the DIY. The Pros have specialized tools and protective gear. Diamond impregnated blades, Diamond impregnated polishing wheel, special epoxies for gluing seams. Respirator dust masks (some hook up to oxygen tanks), full face shield mask. Even an attempt to cut granite can be dangerous. The cutting blade can accidentally jam or slip and cause injury. I DON'T RECOMMEND IT! Also consider the weight of granite slabs. Granite tiles and slabs come in different thicknesses. The weight per square foot for each thickness is as follows: 3/4"(20mm) thick slab: 12.8 lbs. sq. ft. 1 1/4"(30mm) thick slab: 18 lbs sq. ft. If you can find fitting pieces, great. Or you could find a local countertop shop that may be able to cut the granite for a small fee!Helpful Reply

Shauna Steadman on Nov 04, 2016My local granite supplier absolutely refused to cut marble from Habitat for Humanity, claiming that they only cut pieces that they had sold! There were some very nice pieces at Habitat.Helpful Reply

Dawn Marie on Nov 13, 2016I would also recommend going with a professional. If your local retail granite people won't cut it for you, try to see if there is a granite yard in your area.Helpful Reply
