Driveway Motor Oil

Z on Oct 21, 2013If it's a fresh spill use kitty litter. If it's an older stain you might have to rub the litter in since the oil might be thicker. Either way, let the litter sit for awhile giving it time to absorb the oil then sweep it up with a stiff broom. You might need to repeat this process once or twice. This just happened to my hubby this weekend while changing the oil in my vehicle. He was doing it in the driveway and he didn't notice that the wind blew the plastic drain tub before there was enough oil drained into it to weigh it down.Helpful Reply

Pat Dollar on Oct 21, 2013Thank you for the suggestions but this doesn't answer my question because kitty litter still leaves a huge black stain. Want to remove it completely. I tried tide once but it discolored the area. Maybe it was tide with bleach though. I heard there was some kind of orange stuff but don't know what it was.Helpful Reply

Bordeaux Construction Services on Oct 21, 2013After you apply the kitty liter to absorb all the excess oil scrub with laundry detergent and hot water. If that doesn't clean it up perfectly . Then you will have to step it up and apply muriatic acid diluted 50% with water. Let stand for apx 10 minutes scrub and wash off.Helpful Reply

Pat Dollar on Oct 25, 2013Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas. I would like to find an orange based cleaner that Eco-friendly and will remove the oil without discoloring the driveway.Helpful Reply

Vicki Owen on Oct 26, 2013Pat....My car's engine blew and the oil (all of it) came out all over the driveway. The tow truck driver told me to use Tide powder. Wet the spot, sprinkle on Tide powder detergent, scrub it in with a broom (in my case) or a scrub brush and let it sit for about 20 minutes. I was amazed how beautifully it worked. I was worried the black oil would not come up but it did. Good luck. Hope this works for you.Helpful Reply
