Saving Canna
by

Now that the elephant ears are out of the ground, it's time to turn my attention to canna.
Step 1: Being careful to not damage the corm, dig up the canna plant.
Step 2: Trim the stalk, leaving about 8" - 10".
Step 3: Do your best to shake off any excess dirt. Don't worry about splitting corms -- this will be much easier to do in the spring when it's time to replant them.
Step 4: I allow the removed canna to dry out for about a week. I keep them upside down -- mostly because my go-to book ("Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Gardening") recommends to do that -- and I BELIEVE in that book.
Step 5: After a week, I store the corms (stalks attached) in brown paper bags with peat moss.
