How do I fix a dripping faucet?

The bathroom faucet is dripping. I don't know the brand - it's not stamped on it. We took the little screen off, but there is no washer inside that we can see. Is there another place to take it apart?

The screen you removed is part of the aerator and drips there can be a symptom, but not the source of a leak. Probably the leak is in the handle where you turn the water on and off. It's not a difficult repair if you're handy. Easier if it's a single lever type that controls hot and cold than one with separate hot and cold controls. In addition the seats are "cheap" and should be replaced at the same time, both hot and cold. Often the seat on the hot water side hardens and does not give a good seal therefore the dripping. Usually the hot seat is the culprit more than the spring losing its tension.

Asking how to fix a faucet is like asking how to fix a car. Each type and brand is unique and requires proprietary parts. ( Knock-offs are sometimes available but not recommended.) Considering that several trips to Home Depot to get parts, along with the chance that if you put it together wrong it may leak and ruin cabinets, may make the notion of hiring a professional the wise and cost efficient solution.

Can't afford a plumber! However, the problem seems to be solved. My husband took the little screen apart again and tightened it up real good, and it seems to be ok. Thx anyway.
