Wasps in chimney

We have been seeing wasps coming out of the fireplace the last week or so. Just a couple per day. The flue is closed and there is screen at the top. Not sure how the little buggers got in-but do I need to call a chimney sweep to get them out? If I start a fire and open the flue-will they fly into the living room? Any ideas all you wonderful peeps out there?

Does your fire place have glass doors?...if so I would start fire then close the doors...that should "smoke them out". It sounds like you need to burn fires on a regular basis. Now that heating season is here in the Rockies we are burning now about every day.

will do definitely-just afraid to open the flue and thusly, the "floodgates"
