How to get the acetone out of a piece of wood ??

Z on Oct 23, 2013Miri, I think the only way to fix this is to refinish the night stand. Let's see what @Kevin of KMS Woodworks says for sure.Helpful Reply

Spheramid Enterprises on Oct 24, 2013More acetone to soften it again ( or alcohol, or lacquer thinner) and then sanding and refinish is probably your only option. A "card" scraper can be used to level the old and a touch up may work, but it sounds beyond that.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Oct 24, 2013I agree with @Spheramid Enterprises The acetone is a solvent and has partially dissolved the furniture's finish. More solvent will soften it up. Pick up a plastic putty knife, and then dribble a bit more polish remover on the stuck down paper towels. While it is still wet gently scrap away the residue, with all of the paper towel removed you can then "clean up" any small bits of residue with some remover on a small cotton rag. ( old t-shirt rags are the best in my view). You will be left with a "bald" type spot where the old finish have been removed. This will then need to be re-stained and seal with a new top coat. Some light 320 grit sanding before staining will help blend the colors. good luckHelpful Reply
