What end result are you seeking that you would paint the subfloor (usually not done)?

Why would you paint subflooring? There is no need to do so. What is the type of flooring you are going to install?

If you are wanting to waterproof it before putting down other flooring, use seal-krete, Kilzmax, or Kilzcomplete. You can get it at Home Depot.

It's not plywood or particle board. I just was curious what paint you could use and if you just put polyurethane to protect it. I want to be different.

  I get the wanting to be different part - and subflooring is just that - not intended to be the final product. I would rethink your design plan to include a better option - just my opinion though. Consider bare feet, children, pets . . .
