I have a typical 90's kitchen - honey oak cabinets, white laminate countertops, honey oak wood floor. It has the rectangular box light fixture in the middle of the room with honey oak trim. The only upgrade the previous owners added was stainless steel appliances. I would like to paint the cabinets (but not white). I would also like to paint the countertops. The kitchen is fairly small - with a window above the sink, and a patio door in the adjacent dining space. I would be up for changing the light fixture and the flooring too, but just can't decide. I do like the espresso color for cabinets but afraid it will make the room too dark. Suggestions?

One more thing...my camera is broke, but @Audra Bailey 's kitchen is almost identical to mine in layout. Of course I have a honey oak floor and different light fixture, with "utterly beige" wall color.

ive been racking my brain myself trying to come up with some ideas. ive come to the conclusion that dark cabinets will make it look small and i think im doing either all white cabinets or white on top and grey on bottom with a teal glass tile backsplash and dark expresso colored floors or cherry floors. Let me know what you decide! Id love to see a picture! better homes and garden lets you take a picture of your space and paint it, thats how i figured mine out fyi!

@Audra Bailey - Thanks so much for your ideas - you are the only one who responded to my post. I might be able to take a pic of my kitchen with my phone to help hometalk posters out, but since my kitchen is almost identical to yours, I figured they would get the picture...so to speak.
